PASS Program

The Peer-Assisted Study Session Program, or P.A.S.S. for short, is an after-school program that services our younger students ages 6–12.  Mentoring Partnerships supplies tutoring support for those pre-teens in the surrounding community who need academic assistance.  For two hours each day, tutors are paired one-on-one with young students to aid in homework completion, vocabulary expansion, and computer skills development.

Our teen mentors are available to tutor our elementary and middle school students in any subjects for which they are in need of help and support.  Our youngest students (Grades K-2) benefit from homework assistance, daily reading sessions, and learning support software available in our computer lab.  Our more advanced students (Grades 3–6) also receive homework assistance and computer literacy training.  Mentors introduce these students to available electronic research techniques, such as reference software and the World Wide Web, to aid them in their learning process.

Our offices are also equipped with educational textbooks, hands-on learning games, and computer software to stimulate their minds and encourage academic growth for students of every grade, from our kindergartners to our high school seniors.  Each teen mentor receives extensive computer literacy training and is schooled on each of our student software packages.

Our state-of-the-art computer facilities are equipped with eight personal computers, a flatbed scanner, and a network printer.  Our students also have access to the Internet and its various academic and recreational resources, including e-mail, Telnet, file transfer, newsgroups, and chat rooms.

The P.A.S.S. Program serves approximately 20 young students a day.  We currently have 20 teen mentors on staff as tutors for the P.A.S.S. Program.
