East Liberty nonprofit Youth Enrichment Services Named 2019 Champion in Action

The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that Youth Enrichment Services (YES), a nonprofit providing socially and economically at-risk youth the opportunity to achieve success through participation in mentorship, education and enrichment programs, has been named a 2019 Champion in Action in the category of Youth Leadership. The award, announced jointly by Citizens Bank, WPXI-TV, Trib Total Media and Pittsburgh Cares, includes $35,000 in unrestricted funding as well as promotional and volunteer support for the organization’s outstanding work, according to a release.
Youth Enrichment Services (YES) provides empowerment, experiential opportunities, academic enrichment and summer employment as positive pathways to future success. YES partners with local organizations to create synergy and generates transformative stories, national accolades and positive research outcomes.
JAQUAN BROCKMAN (he, him, his)
Media Specialist
Jaquan Brockman is a multifaceted photographer, graphic designer, aspiring filmmaker, and multimedia artist with a strong foundation in media and storytelling. A fourteen-time published photographer and a published author, having co-written an Op-Ed for TeenVogue, Jaquan’s work is dedicated to uplifting the voices and stories of underprivileged and underrepresented communities.
In December 2023, Jaquan graduated from the Community College of Allegheny County with an Honors Associate’s Degree in General Studies and a Certificate in Graphic Design. He will be transferring to Howard University in Fall 2025 to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications with a major in Film/TV Production.
Jaquan has an extensive background in media here at Youth Enrichment Services including digitally documenting YES students' program experiences, creating a photo journal celebrating Black women as his independent project when he was a student in our Summer Learn & Earn program, and crafting compelling narratives as part of the YES Writers Program. As a Media Specialist at YES, he honed his skills in capturing, editing, and curating content for our events, social media, newsletter, and web platforms.
Jaquan combines photography, digital fine art, and storytelling to produce provocative and impactful work. He strives to leave a legacy of art and media that celebrates Blackness, intersectionality, and resilience.
