Board Member

Della Watson Binion has been employed by Pittsburgh Public Schools as a Pennsylvania State Certified Biology Teacher since 2007 when she relocated to Pittsburgh, PA. with her husband, and son.  In this capacity, she has served as a Long-term Certified Substitute, Secondary Education Science Teacher.  Also, Della holds State Biology, Earth Science, General Science Certificates in Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee and Virginia.  Prior to the family move to Pittsburgh, Della retired from the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District, where she served as an ESL (English Second Language) High School Biology and Chemistry Teacher as a contract teacher. Della comes to Pittsburgh with over 20 years of secondary science experience in urban school districts around the country, which included Hopewell, VA Public Schools, Richmond Virginia Public Schools, Nashville-Davidson County, TN Public Schools, Kansas City, KS Public Schools, Hickman Mills Public Schools and Kansas City, MO Public Schools.

Della has a Master Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University with a concentration in Management and Supervision and a B.S. Degree in Biology from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and a Teacher Certification B.S. Degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.

As an experienced biology teacher, Della is known as an innovative, knowledgeable teacher with the ability to motivate and teach in urban environments. She brings to the table a wealth of expertise, best- practices that school and students can benefit from. Her background is diverse and well- traveled because her military experiences have provided a diversity of cultures with each duty station (moving every three years) around the world until her husband’s military retirement. Her background also includes grant writing, federal government work and Pittsburgh Team Leader for the Obama Presidential Campaign (2008 and 2012) and The Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign (2016).
